NEW THIS YEAR: ONE PARENT MUST ATTEND THIS MEETING WITH THEIR GIRL.

6th grade brings new responsibilities, and we're excited to hand more ownership over to the girls. This also means parent involvement will increase to help ensure troop expectations are met and girls are supported as our troop dynamics evolve.

GIRL-LED CADETTES

As girls move from Juniors to Cadettes, Girl Scouts intentionally shifts more responsibility from adults to the girls.

As Cadettes, girls begin planning meetings, helping make financial decisions, researching trips, and taking ownership of the direction of the troop. Parents continue to play an important supporting role, but our goal is to gradually step back as the girls step forward.

Tonight, while we're discussing expectations with parents, the girls will be meeting separately to begin making some of these decisions themselves.

BRONZE AWARD

Our girls worked incredibly hard during their Junior years, and their Bronze Award project has officially been completed! You can view the entire project here.

FORMS (mandatory)

Please complete the required forms either in person or digitally and submit them to Maureen Freehill. The forms are linked here and must be received by October 1.

A troop group text for day-of updates

Please check our website, www.troop21000.com, for all important information. It is our central hub for calendars, forms, announcements, and answers to frequently asked questions.

TROOP MEETINGS (mandatory)

Troop meetings are generally held on the second Wednesday of each month; however, there are exceptions in September and October.

Meetings are held 5:30–7:00 PM, with locations alternating between Hawk Hollow and an indoor location (TBD).

Please refer to the troop website calendar for the most up-to-date meeting dates, times, and locations.

UNIFORMS

Girls received their Cadette vest at our Bridging ceremony 5/17/26. Vests should be worn to each troop meeting or event.

A full uniform is required only for certain events. We'll let you know in advance when a full uniform is needed.

Cadettes have several approved full uniform options:

SILVER AWARD (optional)

The Silver Award is the highest award a Cadette can earn. They will identify a problem in their community and create a lasting solution that continues making a difference even after the project is finished.

Earning the Silver Award is completely optional.

Girls will choose whether they would like to pursue this award to work on and complete during 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. They may complete the project individually or in groups of up to four girls.

Troop leaders will provide guidance and periodic check-ins, but the girls will lead the project, with parents providing oversight and support.

FAMILY CAMPING (optional)

Saturday, September 26 (morning) – Sunday, September 27 (morning)

TREATS & KEEPS (mandatory)

This fundraiser begins September 24 and runs through October 29.

Girls will:

Take independent pre-orders for Chocolates, Nuts, & Magazines.
Pick up product around November 20 for delivery.

COOKIES (mandatory)

Cookie season officially begins January 1.

Girls will:

Take independent pre-orders during the Initial Order period.
Pick up cookies in early February for delivery.
Participate in troop cookie booths throughout February and early March.

Much more information will be shared in December!

VOLUNTEERING (optional)

To volunteer with the troop, you must be a registered Girl Scout volunteer.

We can always use extra hands, and we'd love to have more parent involvement throughout the year!

WELCOME TO CADETTES

One of the biggest differences between Juniors and Cadettes is that this troop is becoming your troop.

As Juniors, your leaders planned most of the meetings and activities. As Cadettes, Girl Scouts expects you to help make those decisions. That doesn't mean you'll be doing everything by yourselves—but it does mean your voices matter more than ever.

Tonight we're going to start making some of those decisions together.

GIRL-LED TROOP

As Cadettes, this troop belongs more to you than ever before. We'll decide together how we want to make decisions and organize ourselves throughout the year.

Possible options include:

Patrols/Committees – Small groups of girls take ownership of specific activities and responsibilities, such as Travel, Finance, Treats & Keeps, Cookies, Service Projects, or Events.
Town Hall – Continue making decisions together as one troop through discussion and voting.
Executive Leadership – Elect troop officers to help organize and lead the troop. Possible roles could include Secretary, Treasurer, Communications Coordinator, Cookie Coordinator, Treats & Keeps Coordinator, Badge Coordinator, or other positions we create together.
Hybrid – Combine ideas from multiple leadership styles to create a structure that works best for our troop.

We'll discuss each option and decide what works best for our troop.

TREATS & KEEPS & COOKIES

Our fall and cookie fundraisers help pay for troop activities, events, and travel.

We'll decide together:

Do we want to continue earning individual rewards?
Or would we rather put more money toward bigger troop experiences and adventures?

ADDITIONAL FUNDRAISERS

Depending on the activities, trips, and goals we choose as a troop, we may want to organize additional fundraisers throughout the year.

Let's brainstorm fundraiser ideas and decide what sounds fun and realistic!

DERBY CHALLENGE

The Boy Scouts no longer participate in the Pinewood Derby after 5th grade, so it's time to decide what's next!

Would we rather:

Continue with the Pinewood Derby
Participate in the Madison Avenue Soapbox Derby, where we'd work together to design, build, and race one human-powered soapbox car as a troop

SERVICE PROJECTS

One of the best parts of Girl Scouts is making a difference in our community.

Let's brainstorm service project ideas we'd like to tackle this year.
